Sports Program

Sporting remains one of the most popular and loved means of entertainment in the society. Sports has been known to draw Nations together and even has been used a means of initiating truce on warring camps.  As an acknowledgement of this fact, KRTC used this art as means to winning the attention of idling Kibera slum youth and children. KRTC has since its inception in 2003 used sporting and art as means of achieving its objectives and goals. KRTC runs the following sports programs;

Football

Football remains KRTC’s core activity; our teams are popularly known as the Golden Boys and the Golden Girls. They involve about 120 youth, who train every evening after school and enjoy a joint supper before going home.

The golden boys established in early 2003 has seen hundreds of youth develop their carrier and become professional footballers. Majority of our players have joined professional local clubs while a handful of others are playing in Europe. This team is now according to the Kenya national football federation qualified to play in the national division two leagues.

The golden boys have since led to the birth of three football clubs located in different locations within Nairobi namely ;KRTC Young boys migingo, KRTC Mbotela and KRTC Makina.

The KRTC Young boys club in Migingo has received sponsorship from several other sponsors. They have around 70 players in the age category of under12, under15, ander18 and the senior category respectively. The senior young boys’ team is currently playing in the Kenya national divition2 league.

Another branch of KRTC football is the Mbotela KRTC football academy. This team was formed by legendary former golden boys’ players namely; Denis Arori, Martin linyonyi,francis otieno  yusuf among many other golden boys players. This academy has attracted a strong funding and is playing in the National division two leagues.

The golden boy’s football team has attracted the attention of the locate authority and local organization; this is due to its impact in crime reduction among the youth and ability to promote talent among hundreds of youth in kibra over years.

Through football KRTC krtc has been able to secure educational sponsorship for about 70 pupils both boys and girls. The golden boys have become very popular among the youth in kibra, this has caused many young people to seek for opportunities to join this team. KRTC would love to make this team more equipped and sustainable, it is due to this high demand that KRTC is looking for more partnership and support to help our youth.

THE GOLDEN GIRLS

The golden girls’ team was established in early 2013 and now comprises of about 48 players in the 10 -22 age group. The team has won several trophies in major tournaments; about 22 girls have been awarded scholarships by NGOs and schools. The Golden Girls Football Team has two categories; the senior and junior teams. Currently the senior team has 28 players and is led by Coach Elizabeth Nasimiyu and Joseph Sudi The junior team is managed by Jane Atieno and has 18 players.

The senior team has grown into a successful team in Nairobi and participates in the nationwide inter-county league. The senior team has also produced several players who are now playing in National Division 1 clubs, while about 38 players have received sponsorship from government schools to complete secondary school education, because of their talent.

The golden girls has for the past three years performed very well in the county league, this has attracted the interest of many other girls to join this team. KRTC has over years spend heavily in in buying football equipment for these girls.in Oder to help the golden girls progress in the league and make this team more sustainable, KRTC is looking for more partnership and support.

Women Volleyball and Netball Teams

Our volleyball and netball teams were established in early 2017 and included about 48 girls in the 14-34 age groups’. In the year 2021 KRTC out of increased need to support much younger girls established another youthful team of about 20 players 18 of whom received full educational sponsorship by girls’ soccer. The teams meet daily to train and regularly participate in tournaments. Our volleyball teams has attained national image, playing with such major teams as Kenya Power Kenya pipeline, Kenya Prisons. These teams bring together young mothers and single mothers and through Plan International programs, have undergone training on issues of gender based violence and other ventures on improving their life’s survival skills.

KRTC has for the past 7 years invested heavily in the welfare of these youthful ladies by buying sporting equipment to sustain them in the sport; we also have a substantial feeding budget that takes care of their nutritional needs.

We are working towards creating more partnership to support this ladies majority of who have no stable means of livelihood.

KRTC’s Cestoball Team

KRTC’s Cestoball team is the pioneer group of this sport in Kenya. In the year 2021, KRTC produced majority of the first participants of the Cestoball in the Kenya National Cestaboll team. Up to date our Cestaboll players have become a key motivation to other girls across the country. KRTC has invested a lot in supporting this unique sporting activity and has been engaged not only in training these girls but has also provided logistic support such as provision of sporting equipment, securing passports when going to participate in international games. The numbers of players of this sport have since increased attracting players from all age groups. This has helped to rescue many slum girls from vices that come from idling.
