HIV Awareness and Destigmatization
At Kibera Reformation and Transformation Centre (KRTC), we are dedicated to promoting HIV awareness and destigmatization through impactful programs and collaborations that create lasting change within our community.
Our Initiatives
- School Outreach Programs
- KRTC conducts HIV Awareness and Destigmatization school outreach programs, engaging students and educators in open discussions about the risks and dangers of HIV.
- A team of 10 committed volunteers facilitates these programs, ensuring young people are equipped with accurate information and resources.
- Collaborations with Healthcare Partners
- KRTC works closely with the Ministry of Health, Mbagathi District Hospital, Coptic Hospitals, and Community Health Workers, where two of our members are trained in HIV care and advocacy.
- These partnerships enhance the delivery of quality health services and awareness campaigns in Kibera and beyond.
- World AIDS Day Events
- Each year, KRTC hosts World AIDS Day events, bringing the community together to commemorate progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS while advocating for greater awareness and acceptance.
- Mobilized Services
- HIV Screening and Awareness: In collaboration with partners like AMREF, Carolina for Life Kibera, and Volunteers from the Ministry of Health, we provide free HIV screening services.
- Counseling Services: Tailored support for young and single mothers, helping them navigate the challenges of living with or being affected by HIV.
- Advocacy: Championing the rights and inclusion of individuals living with HIV, using platforms such as Standard Newspaper and other media outlets to create widespread awareness.
Our Commitment
KRTC is committed to breaking the stigma surrounding HIV by fostering understanding, compassion, and acceptance within the community. Through education, health services, and advocacy, we empower individuals to make informed choices and embrace healthier lives.
Let us join hands to fight HIV stigma and build a society where everyone thrives.
They Need Your Help!
Our objective is to help the Kibera slum child and youth realize their self-worth and dignity in the society through programs that support their wellbeing, nurture and enhance their talents and promote their socio-economic development.
