Small Businesses

In early 2011, KRTC saw the need to support its members who were by then managing its project activities.KRTC has since then invested heavily in empowering them by starting income generating activities. KRTC started its first business which was a video show which was successfull untill 2017 when it was demolished during slum demolition.KRTC in 2013 then started its first salon which is successfully empowering about 6 ladies. Thereafter in 2016, KRTC established another beauty shop which is also successfull and supporting 6 girls. These beauty shops have survived from 2013 to date (11 years) giving the ladies a stable income and also helps in training other ladies. They even survived the hardest time during COVID to an extent that the ladies have opened another beauty shop supporting another 4 ladies.

Beauty Shops
Our three beauty shops provide young men and women in Kibera with hands-on training in hairdressing, skincare, and makeup, helping them gain marketable skills in the beauty industry. Beyond employment, the shops foster creativity and confidence, empowering youth with both an income and the potential to pursue future careers or entrepreneurial ventures in the beauty sector. They are highly successful and survived the covid period to continue impacting and helping the needy youth.

Cereal Shops
KRTC`S cereal business is currently providing for 3 girls who are now able to take care of their families. These shops provide cereals at very affordable prices for Kibera line saba area. The shops boast a variety of essential foodstuffs like sugar, salt and floor which is basic for Kibera people. Through this business, the girls have learnt business management skills and also shared the skills with other girls. The businesses are successful and have survived challenging business situations.

Bookshops
KRTC on realization that there was need to provide affordable schooling materials to Kibera children, started a bookshop to support one of its main leaders who is in charge of girls activities. The bookshop does not only support her and her family to generate income, but also make schooling materials available for children in Kibera line Saba area. KRTC heavily invested by providing all necesary materials which include: text books, story books, pens and all modern textbooks. The bookshop also has an mpesa shop that helps the girls running it generate more income. It`s well located on the main road. 

Boutique Shop
Our boutique shop supports four boys and one girl by offering employment in fashion retail. Here, they gain experience in product selection, inventory management, and customer interaction, fostering skills that build confidence and prepare them for possible future roles in the retail sector.

Sports Shop
Sports being a key KRTC activity, KRTC used this experience to establish 2 sports shops with an aim of empowering its two coaches with income generating activities. The sports shops have since given the locals an easier option to access sporting materials like football jerseys, sneakers and general sports merchandise at very affordable prices. This has made it easier for KRTC members also to get the equipment for training.

In addition to the sports shops, KRTC aldo established a general shop to one of the coaches who has actively supported the organization in managing its activities.

Cyber/Printing Business
Our cyber and printing business offers employment to girls,giving them stable incomes and also  teaches them digital skills like computer use, printing, and basic troubleshooting. This work provides them with valuable experience in customer service and digital literacy, empowering them with skills that are increasingly in demand.
